I think the beauty product most of us girls stuggle with is foundation, i know i definately do. Over the past few years i have tried tons and tons of brands and formula's.. and this is my current stash. As you can see the products range widely in price, the cheapest costing a mere £1.99 and the dearest putting me back £23.
The Natural Collection was one of the very first foundations i ever owned, the boots exclusive brand really appealed to me in school because of how affordable it was. I also didn't have a clue what i was doing with foundation or what i was really looking to get from it, so the fact it didn't claim to work miracles and looked quite simple to use made me take the plunge. It's a very standard product as you would expect. There is only a small range of colours to choose from so i always felt like the shade was slightly off (cue annoying neck line) but it certainly did the job in the beginning.
Once i'd managed to get myself a part time job i began investing a little more money into my cosmetics and working in Superdrug i became a big fan of drug store brands such as Maybelline and Rimmel. They are still very affordable but do offer a slightly better product. I wasn't bowled over by any of the foundations i tried from these brands apart from Dream Matte Mousse which i absolutely loved as soon as it came out. The silky smooth formula is just beautiful to apply and blend and it is a product i have been using for a very long time.
Having said this i still found i had problems with getting the correct shade and coverage and i think it's really difficult to pick out the right one in a drug store environment. Often you are already wearing some form of make up and then you have to attempt to apply crappy diseased looking testers in numerous shades to all different parts of your face and hands.. then after a while they all blend into one and you can't remember which one is which - ughh we've all been there! So one day i decided that i'm clearly no make up artist, and i would much rather leave it to somebody else to do all this nonsense for me, and that is where MAC came in.
Studio Sculpt was the first "proper" foundation i have ever purchased and i am still using it now. The colour match is absolutely perfect and i can sweep it over my neckline without worrying about a dodgy two toned outcome. The price is of course enormously different to what i started off paying for my foundation but the quality of the product has vastly improved. I do really like this foundation and will be doing a proper review on it soon, however i still tend to top up with the Dream Matte Mousse for the coverage i like.
I think the lesson learnt for me is you get what pay for! and an increase in price can often mean increasingly better products.
I'd really like to know what your go to foundation is and why? :)
What do you think of drug store brands?
Despite having all these lurking in my make up bag i'm always open to trying new products to see if there's anything better out there! Even though i'm quite happy to continue using Studio Sculpt, i do feel there are others out there that can do better. Fill me in please!
